HELLO!
WELCOME TO MY CONNOR FAMILY HISTORY RESOURCE WEBSITE.
My name is ANDREW CONNOR from Perth, Western Australia.

I grew up in the mining City of Broken Hill, New South Wales where, as a young boy, I became fascinated with rocks and minerals. This led me to study Geology and to become a mineral exploration geologist. I spent thirty-six very happy years pursuing this career. It provided opportunities to travel and see places of marvelous natural beauty, to meet people and learn new languages, to be a scientific detective and, occasionally, to discover something.
I retired from the exploration and mining industry in early 2009, and I have been exploring and researching my family history since then, building on what my father began. I have replaced my love of exploration with being a family detective, discovering who my ancestors are, what they did and why. My main interest has been tracing living family relatives and making contact with them, rather than trying to trace the family tree back in to misty time. The added benefits of this approach are travelling to places where they lived, or still reside, and meeting people.
Most of the relatives I have traced and contacted show at least some interest in knowing more about their family history. Many of them have generously given me access to their family treasures, photos and stories, for which I am very grateful, but they don’t have the time or inclination themselves to research and record their close family histories.
With the modern demise of writing letters, easy deletion of electronic documents, and increasing concerns about privacy, modern family records are becoming scarcer. Future family historians will struggle to find records and research material, so I decided to set up a web site – this website – and make everything I have available to anyone interested. If any of my relatives out there wish to preserve their family history in this way and contribute, I’m happy to add material to the web site.
